Merry Christmas music lovers! I’ve been away for a while sorting out some life stuff but I wanted to do one last post for 2009. As my personal thank you for reading this blog and for passing along the music love, I’ve collected here a set of classic Christmas songs from the roots music world – some blues, jazz, bluegrass, funk, and Elvis! Please enjoy and have a safe and happy holiday season and see you in 2010!
Charles Brown ~ “Merry Christmas Baby:”
More Charles Brown ~ “Please Come Home For Christmas.” This one has been famously covered from Edgar Winters, The Eagles, and Bon Jovi, but this is the original:
Little Johnny Taylor also did a version… pure blues heaven!
Blues rock with Canned Heat doing “Christmas Blues”:
A jazzy Louis Armstrong with “‘Zat You, Santa Claus?”:
A beautiful song, Duke Ellington doing “Sugar Rum Cherry”:
I adore bluegrass. Here are fathers Bill Monroe & Bluegrass Boys ~ “Christmas Times A Coming”:
Bassist Victor Wooten with a funk jam version of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”:
And I just had to end with the rockabilly classic, “Blue Christmas” by none other than Elvis Presley!
